Case IH 2560 – Transmission Control Module: Uncommanded movement of synchroniser F1/F3 to neutral
Issue description
This code indicates that the transmission control system detected the F1/F3 synchronizer physically moving out of its engaged gear position and slipping into neutral without receiving a command from the controller to do so.

Check the cause
Monitor live data using the Electronic Service Tool (EST) or onboard 'H Menu' to check the F1/F3 synchronizer position sensor values (300-1200 for F1, 2050-2800 for Neutral, 3550-4700 for F3).
Inspect the electrical circuit, wiring harness, and connectors for the F1/F3 synchronizer potentiometer and shift solenoids for open circuits, shorts to ground, or shorts to a 5V/12V source.
Perform a hydraulic pressure test to verify transmission oil pressure is within specification and shift cylinders/solenoids are receiving proper flow.
Assess for mechanical driveline failures, such as a broken snap ring, worn synchronizer ring, or damaged shift fork, if sensor readings and hydraulic pressures are normal.
Repair steps
Access Diagnostics
Turn the ignition key ON and enter the diagnostic menu (or connect the EST) to verify Code 2560 and check for related electrical codes (such as 2507/2508 for sensor voltage issues or 2511/2512 for solenoid faults).
Electrical Repair
If the position sensor reading is erratic, replace the F1/F3 synchronizer potentiometer. If wiring is damaged, repair the harness leading to the transmission cover.
Transmission Disassembly
If diagnostics point to a mechanical failure holding the gear, the tractor must be split or the transmission gear cover removed to access the CVT/FPS internal components.
Component Replacement
Inspect the F1/F3 shaft, shift cylinder, shifter fork, and synchronizer assembly. Replace any worn synchronizer blocking rings, damaged shift forks, or broken retaining snap rings.
Reassembly
Reassemble the transmission components and refill the system with approved hydraulic/transmission fluid (e.g., Case IH Hy-Tran).
Calibration and Code Clearing
Navigate to the 'H8' or 'HC' menu in the instrument cluster to clear all stored fault codes. Perform a full transmission calibration to allow the controller to relearn the F1/F3 synchronizer engagement and neutral positions.
