Case IH 2580 (519179.04) - DEC – FRC or CAB: Brake Left Oil Pressure Sensor - open circuit or short to GND

Issue description

The control module is detecting a voltage signal from the left hydraulic brake pressure sensor that falls outside the normal operating parameters (typically dropping to 0V), indicating an open circuit, short to ground, or internal sensor failure.

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the left brake oil pressure sensor, its connector, and the wiring harness for pinched wires, rubbed insulation, corrosion, or hydraulic oil wicking into the electrical connector (indicating internal seal failure).

  2. Disconnect the sensor, turn the key to the ON position, and use a multimeter to verify that the connector is receiving the 5V reference signal and has a solid ground.

  3. With the sensor and the ECU harness disconnected, test the signal wire for continuity to ground. If continuity exists, the wiring harness is shorted to the chassis and must be repaired.

  4. If the 5V reference and ground are present, jump the signal wire to the reference voltage (or ground) and monitor the diagnostic display. If the fault code changes status (e.g., to 'voltage high'), the wiring harness is intact, confirming the sensor itself has failed.

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

    Turn off the engine. Pump the brake pedals several times to relieve any residual hydraulic pressure in the brake accumulators. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  2. Locate the Sensor

    Locate the left brake oil pressure sensor. Depending on the model, this is typically found on the brake control valve block, near the brake accumulators, or behind the cab hinge area.

  3. Disconnect Electronics

    Unplug the electrical connector from the sensor.

  4. Remove the Sensor

    Using an appropriate wrench, unthread the faulty brake oil pressure sensor. Have a shop rag ready to catch the small amount of hydraulic fluid that will weep from the port.

  5. Install the New Sensor

    Thread the new OEM sensor into the port. Tighten it to the specified torque rating found in your model's service manual (do not over-tighten, as this can damage the valve block threads).

  6. Reconnect

    Plug the electrical connector back into the sensor until it clicks. Reconnect the battery.

  7. Test and Clear

    Start the tractor and allow hydraulic pressure to build. Test the left brake pedal to ensure proper operation. Check the sensor fitting for leaks. Navigate to the diagnostic menu on the Pro display to verify that fault code 2580 has moved from 'Active' to 'Inactive,' and clear the code.
