Case IH 2581 – Universal Control Module (UCM): Left brake pressure transducer - short to 12V (when ABS is fitted).
Issue description
The control module has detected that the signal voltage from the left brake pressure transducer is abnormally high, indicating a short circuit to a 12-volt power source. This transducer monitors the hydraulic pressure applied to the left brake circuit, which is a critical input for the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) to properly modulate braking force and prevent wheel lockup.

Check the cause
Inspect the left brake pressure transducer connector and the UCM connector for moisture, corrosion, or damaged pins.
Disconnect the transducer and check for a +5V supply at the sensor connector (typically Pin B to ground).
Verify continuity to ground at the sensor connector (typically Pin A to ground).
Test the signal wire (typically Pin C) between the sensor connector and the UCM connector for a short to 12V. If you read 12V on this wire while disconnected from the sensor, the wiring harness is shorted to a power wire.
If the wiring harness tests perfectly fine (no 12V short found in the harness), the short to 12V is occurring internally within the transducer itself.
Repair steps
Relieve Pressure
Safely park the machine on level ground, turn off the engine, and pump the brake pedals several times to relieve any residual hydraulic pressure in the brake system.
Disconnect Wiring
Locate the left brake pressure transducer (typically mounted on the ABS brake valve manifold) and disconnect its 3-pole electrical connector.
Harness Repair (If Applicable)
If your diagnostics revealed a short in the harness, trace the signal wire back to the UCM, locate the chafed/melted section, and repair the wire.
Replace Transducer (If Applicable)
If the sensor is internally shorted, unscrew the faulty left brake pressure transducer from the manifold.
Install New Sensor
Thread the new brake pressure transducer into the manifold and tighten to the OEM torque specification.
Reconnect
Plug the electrical connector back in. Replace the connector housing or locking tab if they became brittle and broke during removal.
Bleed Brakes
Bleed the left brake hydraulic circuit if required by your specific model's service manual to ensure no air is trapped in the ABS block.
Clear Codes
Turn the key on and use the tractor's diagnostic display or a service tool to clear fault code 2581. Test drive the tractor and apply the brakes to verify the code does not return. (Note: If the code immediately returns and the sensor/wiring are 100% verified, the UCM may require a software re-flash or replacement).
