2582

Case IH 2582 – ABS Controller / Transmission/Chassis Control Module (MTA CCM): Left brake pedal switch fault – electrical signals are inconsistent (when ABS is fitted)

Issue description

The controller is receiving erratic, conflicting, or missing electrical signals from the left brake pedal switch, which can disable ABS functions or limit the machine to basic functions (like 100% differential lock only).

Applies to these machines

  • Optum
  • Puma series (125, 140, 165, 180, 195, 210, 225 CVX)
  • Maxxum series
  • Farmall series (40, 45, 50 CVT, 60, 70, 80, 90, 95, 105U, 115U)
  • JX series
  • JXU series

Check the cause

  1. Perform the H5 Switch Operation Test on the tractor's display to check for code d12 or d13 when the left brake pedal is depressed

  2. Perform a wiggle test on the wiring harness near the pedal while watching the display to check for intermittent connection issues

  3. Check the left-hand brake switch connector for 12-volt power with the key ON

  4. Check if the power supply wire to the left brake pedal switch is shorted to the chassis ground

  5. Check cab fuses (such as Fuse 38); if the fuse blows when the pedal is depressed with the key ON, there is a direct short to ground in the switch or harness

  6. Perform a continuity test on the switch manually with a multimeter to ensure it correctly opens and closes when the plunger is depressed

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, engage the parking brake, and remove the key.

  2. Locate the Switch

Locate the left brake pedal switch under the dashboard/cab floor, directly engaging with the left brake pedal linkage.

  3. Disconnect

Unplug the electrical harness connector from the left brake pedal switch. Inspect the connector pins for corrosion, pushed-back pins, or moisture.

  4. Removal

Loosen the retaining nuts holding the switch in its mounting bracket and unthread/remove the faulty switch.

  5. Installation

Thread the new brake pedal switch into the bracket.

  6. Adjustment

Adjust the switch depth so that the pedal mechanism fully depresses the switch plunger when the pedal is at rest, and releases it when the pedal is pressed. Tighten the retaining nuts.

  7. Reassembly & Testing

Reconnect the electrical harness. Turn the key ON and use the H5 diagnostic menu (or verify brake lights/ABS dash lights) to confirm the switch is now registering consistently. Clear the stored 2582 fault code from the ECU.
