Issue description

Indicates a malfunction or out-of-range reading associated with the Forward Clutch Pressure Sensor. The controller is detecting abnormal hydraulic pressure in the forward clutch circuit, which could be caused by a faulty sensor, a wiring issue, a failing proportional solenoid, or an internal mechanical leak.

Check the cause

  1. Ensure the transmission/hydraulic fluid is at the correct level and that the filters are clean.

  2. Heat the transmission oil to working temperature (35 to 45 degrees Celsius) and attempt to run the transmission calibration procedure. If the calibration aborts and throws a secondary code like '61 Forward clutch calibration failed,' it confirms a severe pressure loss or sensor failure.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness for the forward clutch pressure sensor and the forward clutch solenoid feed (Circuit 4015) for open circuits or shorts to ground.

  4. Connect a manual hydraulic pressure gauge to the forward clutch test port. When engaged, the forward clutch pressure should hold steady (typically around 250 psi depending on the model). If the pressure fluctuates or drops, you likely have an internal leak.

  5. Swap the forward clutch proportional solenoid with another clutch solenoid to see if the fault follows the solenoid or stays with the forward clutch circuit.

Repair steps

  1. Locate sensor

    For a Sensor/Electrical Failure: Locate the forward clutch pressure sensor on the transmission control valve block.

  2. Remove faulty sensor

    Disconnect the electrical harness and remove the faulty sensor.

  3. Install new sensor

    Install the new pressure sensor and torque to the OEM specification.

  4. Calibrate transmission

    Reconnect the harness and perform a transmission calibration to clear the code and verify the repair.

  5. Drain fluid

    For an Internal Transmission Failure (if manual pressure is low): Drain the transmission fluid.

  6. Split tractor

    Split the tractor to access the transmission power shuttle/powershift assembly.

  7. Remove clutch assembly

    Remove the forward clutch housing and drum assembly.

  8. Inspect piston

    Inspect the forward clutch piston for cracks, which is a common cause of pressure loss.

  9. Replace plates

    Replace the forward clutch friction plates, steel counter plates, and the pressure plate.

  10. Reassemble clutch pack

    Reassemble the clutch pack, ensuring correct clearance tolerances.

  11. Reassemble and calibrate

    Reassemble the transmission, refill with approved Case IH Akcela hydraulic fluid, and run the tractor to 35-45°C to perform the final dynamic transmission calibration.
