Case IH 259 – Engine Control Module (ECM): Fuel Shutoff Valve is mechanically stuck open

The ECM commanded the fuel shutoff valve to close, but detected that the fuel pressure did not drop as expected. Because the mechanical system is not responding or is out of adjustment, the ECM cannot properly control the engine fuel supply, which typically results in an engine speed and torque derate.

   Verify the code is active (the ECM will illuminate the amber CHECK ENGINE lamp).

   Inspect the electrical wire connected to the fuel shutoff valve for proper grounding, shorts to voltage, or corroded connectors.

   Inspect the valve for physical obstructions or contamination in the fuel system that could cause it to stick.

   Use a diagnostic tool to monitor fuel pressure and verify if the reading is accurate or if a faulty sensor is providing a false reading.

   Locate the Valve

   The fuel shutoff valve is typically located on the fuel delivery housing, often below the air inlet horn depending on the specific engine model.

   Remove the Faulty Valve

   Disconnect the electrical harness from the fuel shutoff solenoid. Unbolt and remove the stuck valve from the fuel pump/delivery housing.

   Install the New Valve

   Install the replacement fuel shutoff valve and reconnect the electrical wiring.

   Validate the Repair

   To clear the code and validate the repair, perform a key cycle, start the engine, and let it idle for at least 1 minute.

   Clear Codes

   The fault code status should change to INACTIVE immediately after the diagnostic runs and passes. Use an electronic service tool to execute the "Reset All Faults" command and clear the inactive code from the ECM's history.
