Case IH 2593 (519167.15) - DEC – Transmission Control Unit (TCU): Reverse Clutch Pressure Sensor Signal is higher than expected

Issue description

The sensor is returning a voltage or digital value that exceeds the normal operating parameters. This condition is typically caused by a sensor or wiring harness that is shorted to power, a damaged or disconnected harness, or an internal transmission pressure anomaly. The transmission controller will typically disable the reverse clutch to prevent mechanical damage.

Check the cause

  1. Cycle the transmission to neutral, then forward, and back to reverse to check if the code clears as a momentary glitch.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness connected to the reverse clutch pressure sensor for pinched wires, damaged insulation, or a short circuit to power.

  3. Test the sensor supply voltage to ensure the reference voltage is correct (usually 5V) and that the signal wire is not shorted to the supply wire.

  4. Check for associated codes (such as Sensor Supply Voltage High or Clutch Enable Pressure Sensor Circuit Voltage Out Of Range High) which indicate a broader electrical issue.

Repair steps

  1. Safely park the tractor on level ground, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine.

  2. Locate the reverse clutch pressure sensor.

    Depending on the serial number and model, this is typically located on the inlet of the transmission control valve block or on the PTO valve.

  3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor.

    Usually a 2-pin male spade terminal block.

  4. Place a catch pan underneath the valve block to catch any residual hydraulic fluid.

  5. Unthread the faulty pressure sensor from the hydraulic port.

    Male threaded hex bolt stem.

  6. Install the new OEM pressure sensor.

    Ensure the sealing ring is intact and properly seated to prevent hydraulic leaks.

  7. Reconnect the electrical harness to the new sensor.

  8. Top off the transmission/hydraulic fluid if any was lost during the swap.

  9. Turn the key on and use the tractor's diagnostic display (H-Menu) or a diagnostic tool to clear the stored fault codes.

  10. Start the engine, depress the clutch, and test forward and reverse engagement to verify the reverse clutch is no longer disabled.
