Case IH 2596 (519168.15) - DEC – Transmission Controller (TCU): Even Clutch Pressure Sensor Signal higher than expected
Issue description
The transmission's Even Clutch Pressure Sensor is sending a 'Signal higher than expected' to the control system, indicating a pressure or electrical voltage value that exceeds the normal operating limits for the current state of the clutch. This condition is typically caused by a failed sensor, a short-to-power in the sensor's wiring harness, or a sticking clutch solenoid valve causing an actual hydraulic overpressure situation.

Check the cause
Verify the transmission oil level is to specification and check the transmission oil filter for blockages or contamination
Inspect the wiring harness and the specific connector for the Even Clutch Pressure Sensor for mud, moisture contamination, or damaged wires that could cause a short circuit
Use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or the tractor's TRANS VIEW monitor to watch the live status of the clutch pressure sensor while slowly cycling the clutch, looking for stuck high or erratic values
Check the corresponding clutch solenoid valve to ensure it is not mechanically stuck open, which would flood the clutch pack with excess hydraulic pressure
Repair steps
Locate the Sensor
The transmission pressure sensors are generally accessible externally on the transmission housing.
Disconnect & Test
Disconnect the electrical connector from the Even Clutch Pressure Sensor. Use a multimeter to test the harness for proper reference voltage and ensure there is no short-to-power in the signal wire.
Replace the Sensor
If the wiring is intact and the live data showed an out-of-range value, the sensor has failed internally. Unthread the old sensor and install the replacement (these sensors are noted as being relatively inexpensive and easy to replace externally).
Clear Codes
Clear the inactive fault codes from the TCU memory using the Case IH diagnostic tool (or the instrument cluster keypad, if the ICU software version permits).
Recalibrate
Perform a transmission and clutch calibration procedure to ensure the TCU learns the engagement points of the new sensor for smooth shifting.
