Case IH 2597 (519169.16) - DEC – Transmission Control Unit (TCU) / Transmission Control Module (TCM): Odd Clutch Pressure Sensor - Data Valid But Above Normal Operating Range

Issue description

The sensor is reading a voltage or pressure value that is higher than the expected maximum threshold, indicating either an actual over-pressure condition in the hydraulic circuit, a sensor that has drifted out of calibration, or a wiring issue (such as a short to voltage).

Check the cause

  1. Check the transmission fluid level and condition for contamination (e.g., metal debris) that could cause valves to stick and spike pressure

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the odd clutch pressure sensor for corrosion, loose pins, or chafed wires that could cause a short-to-power

  3. Connect a diagnostic scan tool and monitor the live data for the Odd Clutch Pressure Sensor, comparing actual pressure feedback against commanded pressure

  4. Install a mechanical transmission pressure gauge on the odd clutch hydraulic test port and compare it to the electronic sensor reading. If the mechanical gauge reads normal but the sensor reads high, the sensor or wiring is faulty. If the mechanical gauge also reads high, the issue is hydraulic

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

    Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine. Allow the transmission to cool.

  2. Relieve Pressure

    Relieve any residual hydraulic pressure in the transmission system according to standard safety protocols.

  3. Locate the Sensor

    Locate the Odd Clutch Pressure Sensor on the transmission valve body or mechatronic unit.

  4. Disconnect Harness

    Carefully unplug the electrical connector from the sensor.

  5. Remove Sensor

    Unthread the faulty pressure sensor from the transmission housing or valve body. Have a catch pan ready, as a small amount of transmission fluid will leak out.

  6. Install New Sensor

    Thread the new OEM pressure sensor into the port and tighten it to the specified torque rating.

  7. Reconnect

    Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring the weather seal clicks securely into place.

  8. Fluid Top-Off

    Check the transmission fluid level and top off any fluid lost during the sensor swap.

  9. Calibration

    Use a diagnostic scan tool to clear the fault code. You must perform a transmission/clutch calibration (relearn procedure) so the TCU can learn the zero-pressure baseline of the new sensor.
