Case IH 2605 – Tractor Control Unit (TCU): 12VS1 voltage supply is low
Issue description
The power supply voltage on the specific 12VS1 electrical rail has dropped below the normal operating threshold. The primary failure modes for this condition are a blown fuse on the 12VS1 circuit or a faulty control unit.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- Steiger T4B
- Steiger Series (e.g., 350-600, Quadtrac)
- Magnum Series (e.g., 180, 200, 220, 240, 250, 280, 310, 340, 380)
- Puma Series (e.g., 150, 165, 175, 180)
- Maxxum Series
Check the cause
Check for related codes: Check if any other low voltage supply-related error codes are currently being displayed. If multiple low-voltage codes are present, the issue is likely a broader electrical or battery supply problem rather than an isolated 12VS1 fault.
Clear and Retest: If no other codes are present, use an approved Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the error code. Run the vehicle under normal conditions and retest to see if the code returns, as it may have been a transient voltage drop.
Inspect Connectors: Check all Tractor Control Unit (TCU) connectors. Ensure they are fully connected, not damaged, the pins are in the correct position, and the fit is tight.
Repair steps
Inspect the Fuses
Locate the tractor's fuse panel and inspect the fuse dedicated to the 12VS1 power supply rail. If the fuse is blown, replace it with a new fuse of the exact same amperage.
Harness Repair
If the fuse is intact (or if a new fuse blows immediately), inspect the wiring harness between the power supply and the TCU for shorts to ground or open circuits. Repair or replace the wiring harness as required.
Replace the TCU
If the fuses, wiring, and connectors are all verified to be in good working condition, the Tractor Control Unit (TCU) itself is likely faulty and must be replaced.
Software Configuration
If the TCU is replaced, you must use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to download the correct level of software for the specific tractor model and configure the unit (such as configuring EHR valves or engine brake settings).
Parts you might need
(8)Fuse
Generic automotive blade fuse (amperage depends on the specific tractor's fuse block diagram).
Tractor Control Unit (TCU) / Transmission Controller
84406543A replacement TCU must be ordered using the tractor's exact Product Identification Number (P.I.N.) to ensure compatibility, and it must be flashed with the correct software version by a dealer.
