Case IH 2607 (518372.05) - DEC – DEC: HST CutOff solenoid - open circuit

Issue description

The control module is sending a voltage signal to the solenoid but is detecting infinite resistance (no current flow). This means the electrical path is broken. Common causes include a disconnected plug, a severed wire in the harness, or a burnt-out solenoid coil.

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the HST CutOff solenoid on the transmission valve block to see if the electrical connector has vibrated loose, is packed with dirt/hydraulic fluid, or if wires are snagged/broken.

  2. Perform a coil resistance test by disconnecting the solenoid plug and measuring resistance across the two pins (infinite/OL indicates a broken coil; 6-15 ohms indicates a good coil and points to a wiring issue).

  3. Check for harness continuity between the solenoid connector and the DEC module harness, looking for pinched wires near articulation joints or the transmission housing.

  4. Check the transmission control and Operator Presence Control (OPC) fuses, as a blown supply-side fuse can manifest as an open circuit.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

    Park the machine on a level surface, engage the parking brake, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery to prevent shorting.

  2. Clean the Area

    Thoroughly clean the area around the HST valve block with non-flammable solvent to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

  3. Disconnect Wiring

    Unplug the electrical connector from the HST CutOff solenoid.

  4. Remove the Solenoid

    Depending on the valve design, either remove the retaining nut at the end of the stem and slide the electromagnetic coil off, or use a wrench to unscrew the entire solenoid cartridge valve from the transmission block.

  5. Install the New Part

    Slide the new coil onto the valve stem and tighten the retaining nut (or thread the new cartridge valve into the block and torque to OEM spec).

  6. Reconnect

    Plug the electrical connector back in. Ensure the weather-pack seal is intact.

  7. Clear Codes

    Reconnect the battery. Turn the ignition key to the ON position to allow the DEC module to run a self-check and clear the active fault code.
