Case IH 2617 – ZTC Controller: Transmission range clutches supply feedback not plausible (RED6 input)
Issue description
A plausibility mismatch detected by the ZTC controller on connector C070, pin 67. Either the transmission relay is commanded active but the ZTC controller is not detecting voltage, or the transmission relay is not active but the ZTC controller is detecting voltage. A short circuit to the minus battery (ground) on this circuit will blow the ZTC controller fuse.

Check the cause
Check the ZTC Controller Fuse: Inspect the fuse panel for a blown ZTC fuse. A blown fuse strongly indicates a short circuit to ground (minus battery) on the RED6 input circuit.
Inspect Connector C070: Locate connector C070 at the ZTC controller. Disconnect it and inspect pin 67 for pushed-out pins, corrosion, or moisture.
Test the Transmission Relay: Verify if the transmission relay is stuck closed (welded contacts) or failing to close when commanded. Listen for the relay clicking when shuttling the F/N/R (Forward/Neutral/Reverse) lever.
Voltage Test at Pin 67: Back-probe connector C070 pin 67. Verify if voltage is present when the transmission relay is inactive, and ensure voltage arrives when the relay is activated.
Wiring Harness Continuity: Check the wiring from the transmission relay output to connector C070 pin 67 for an open circuit or a short to a clean ground.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent further electrical damage or shorting during the repair.
Replace Blown Fuses
If the ZTC controller fuse was blown, replace it with a fuse of the exact same amperage rating. Do not up-size the fuse.
Replace the Transmission Relay
If the relay is stuck open or closed (causing the plausibility mismatch), remove the faulty relay from the fuse/relay panel and install a new OEM relay.
Repair Wiring (If Applicable)
If the relay and fuse are good but the voltage is still missing or shorted, trace the RED6 input wire from the relay to connector C070 pin 67. Repair any chafed wiring that is shorting against the tractor chassis (minus battery).
Clean and Reconnect
Apply dielectric grease to connector C070 to prevent moisture intrusion, and securely reconnect it to the ZTC controller.
Clear Codes and Test
Reconnect the battery. Turn the key on and use the AFS Pro display or a diagnostic scan tool to clear the stored 2617 fault code. Start the tractor and shift through the transmission ranges to ensure the code does not return.
