Case IH 2631 (519182.12) - DEC – DEC: Synchro 2/4 or 6/8 engage error - Valve 6 Blocked during Synchro8 engagment
Issue description
The transmission controller has detected a failure during the engagement of the synchronizer for gears 2/4 or 6/8. Specifically, the system has identified that the hydraulic control valve responsible for actuating this synchronizer (Valve 6) is physically blocked, stuck, or failing to flow fluid correctly during the engagement of the 8th powershift gear (Synchro 8).

Check the cause
Check the transmission hydraulic fluid level and condition for contamination or heavy debris that could cause the internal spool to stick.
Inspect the wiring harness leading to the transmission control valve block. Look for chafed wires, corrosion, or loose pins at the connector for Valve 6.
Use a multimeter to check the resistance of the Valve 6 solenoid coil to ensure it is not shorted or open.
Swap the Valve 6 solenoid/cartridge with an adjacent, identical valve on the block. Clear codes and operate the tractor. If the code changes to the new location, the valve is faulty. If 2631 remains, the issue is in the wiring harness or internal mechanical synchronizer.
Connect a hydraulic pressure gauge to the test port for Valve 6 to verify if the valve is successfully directing pressure to the synchronizer piston when commanded.
Repair steps
Prepare machine for service
Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements, turn off the engine, and engage the parking brake.
Relieve hydraulic pressure
Relieve any residual hydraulic pressure in the system.
Locate valve block
Locate the transmission control valve block on the side of the transmission housing.
Clean valve block area
Thoroughly clean the exterior of the valve block area to prevent dirt from entering the transmission during disassembly.
Disconnect electrical harness
Disconnect the electrical harness from the Valve 6 solenoid.
Remove retaining bolts
Remove the retaining bolts holding the Valve 6 section or cartridge in place.
Extract and inspect valve
Carefully extract the valve. Inspect the valve bore for scoring, metal shavings, or debris that could have caused the blockage.
Change fluid and filter if debris found
If debris is found, a complete transmission fluid and filter change is mandatory to prevent immediate recurrence.
Install new control valve
Lubricate the O-rings on the new control valve section with clean transmission fluid and install it into the block.
Torque retaining bolts
Torque the retaining bolts to OEM specifications.
Reconnect electrical harness
Reconnect the electrical harness.
Replace filter and top off fluid
Replace the transmission hydraulic filter and top off the transmission fluid.
Clear codes and calibrate
Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST), clear the fault codes, and perform a transmission calibration to allow the DEC to learn the engagement characteristics of the new valve.
