2635 (6158.12) - DEC

Case IH 2635 (6158.12) - DEC – Transmission Controller (TRANS) or Armrest Controller (ARM): Synchro 1/3 or 5/7 engage error - Valve 5 Blocked during Synchro7 engagment

Issue description

Transmission shifting failure where Valve 5 (a hydraulic solenoid valve responsible for directing fluid to the synchronizer) is either mechanically stuck, experiencing a hydraulic blockage, or failing to actuate when the system attempts to engage a specific gear range (Synchro7).

Applies to these machines

  • MAXXUM T4E
  • Maxxum series
  • Puma series
  • Magnum series

Check the cause

  1. Check the transmission fluid level and condition (looking for debris that could block a valve).

  2. Verify the electrical connection and voltage at the transmission valve block (specifically the solenoid corresponding to Valve 5).

  3. Perform a transmission calibration via the tractor's display to see if the controller can successfully stroke the valve and engage the synchronizer without hanging up.

Repair steps

  1. Remove valve block

Remove the transmission valve block to access the internal components.

  2. Inspect Valve 5 solenoid

Inspect the specific solenoid (Valve 5) for debris or failed O-rings.

  3. Replace solenoid or valve body

Replace the solenoid or the entire valve body if internal scoring has occurred.
