Case IH 2653-00 - BCM – BCM: Headlamp low beam left - too many loads or faulty load
Issue description
The control module monitors the current draw on the lighting circuits. This code triggers when the module detects that the current on the left low beam circuit is outside of expected parameters, indicating either a circuit overload (too many loads) or an under-current/open circuit (faulty load).
Applies to these machines
3 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Case IH Magnum AFS Connect Series (180, 200, 220, 240, 250, 280, 310, 340, 380, and 400)
- Case IH Steiger AFS Connect Series (Quadtrac and Rowtrac)
Check the cause
Turn on the headlights and visually verify if the left low beam is illuminating to check for a dead bulb or LED.
Inspect for aftermarket modifications, such as auxiliary lights, light bars, or non-OEM high-wattage bulbs, spliced into the left low beam circuit.
Unplug the left headlamp and inspect the harness connector for melted plastic, burnt terminals, or green corrosion.
Using a multimeter, test the wiring harness between the left headlamp connector and the BCM for continuity, shorts to ground, or shorts to power. Pay special attention to areas where the harness routes near hood hinges or hot engine components.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the main battery isolator switch to prevent accidental shorts while working on the BCM circuits.
Access the Headlamp
Open the hood or access panel to reach the rear of the left front headlamp assembly.
Disconnect and Inspect
Unplug the headlamp connector. If the connector is melted or heavily corroded, cut the wires back to clean copper and splice in a new replacement pigtail using heat-shrink butt connectors to ensure a weatherproof seal.
Replace the Load (Bulb/Assembly)
If the connector is in good condition, test the bulb for an open circuit. Replace the halogen bulb or the sealed LED headlamp assembly as required.
Remove Excess Loads
If aftermarket lights were tapped into this circuit, remove them and wire them to a dedicated auxiliary switch and relay to remove the excess load from the BCM.
Reassemble and Test
Plug the headlamp back in, turn on the battery isolator, and start the tractor. Turn the headlights to the low beam position.
Clear Codes
Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or a compatible diagnostic scanner to the diagnostic port and clear the inactive 2653-00 code from the BCM memory.
