Case IH 2653-06 - BCM – Body Control Module (BCM): Left Low Beam Short to Ground

The controller detects a short to ground in the left low beam command circuit.

   Safety First: Always disconnect the main negative battery cable first before performing invasive electrical repairs. Wear safety glasses and ensure all standard electrical tools are grounded.

   Fault Fact: The headlights may not work immediately after a short to ground is removed. You must turn the Key OFF and then ON to reset the BCM.

   Step 1 (Visual Inspection): Inspect the wiring and connections directly at the left headlight assembly.

   Step 2 (Circuit Testing): Using a Digital Multimeter (DMM), measure the resistance between the left headlight connector pin-1 and a known good ground. If resistance is greater than 1000 ohms: The wiring is likely intact, pointing to a failed/shorted left low beam bulb or internal headlight assembly short. If resistance is less than 1000 ohms: There is a confirmed short to ground in the wiring harness between the headlight connector and the BCM.

   Turn the ignition key to the OFF position.

   Disconnect the harness from the left headlight assembly.

   Probe pin-1 on the chassis side of the headlight connector with a multimeter and measure resistance to ground.

   If the test fails (< 1000 ohms): Trace the Left_Lowbeam_Cmd circuit wire back to the BCM.

   Locate the chafed, pinched, or melted section of the wire that is grounding out against the chassis. Repair the damaged wire and secure it in protective loom.

   If the test passes (> 1000 ohms): The short is internal to the headlight itself.

   Replace the left low beam bulb or the entire left headlight assembly.

   Reconnect the headlight harness.

   Turn the Key OFF, then back ON to reset the Body Control Module.

   Retest the lighting system to verify the SPN 2653 FMI 6 (2653-06) fault code has cleared.
