2660-09 - ACM

Case IH 2660-09 - ACM – ACM: Joystick disconnected while powered on

Issue description

The Armrest Controller Module has detected a sudden loss of communication or electrical connection with the Multi-Function Handle (joystick) while the tractor's key switch is in the ON position. This indicates an open circuit, a CAN bus communication drop, or an internal failure of the joystick itself.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Steiger AFS Connect
  • Puma AFS Connect
  • Older generation Magnum (215-335)
  • Older generation Steiger (280-535)

Check the cause

  1. Remove the armrest trim panels and inspect the wiring harness leading from the Multi-Function Handle to the ACM. Look for pinched, chafed, or broken wires caused by the armrest's pivoting motion.

  2. Disconnect the joystick harness. Inspect the connector for pushed-out pins, bent terminals, or corrosion.

  3. Verify that the joystick is receiving its required 5-volt reference and a solid ground from the ACM. (Loss of the 5V reference will often trigger secondary codes).

  4. Check the continuity of the communication lines (CAN High / CAN Low) between the joystick connector and the ACM.

  5. Look for associated armrest codes such as 18007 (Multi-function handle switch error), 18008 (voltage too low), or 18013 (encoder position error) which can help isolate if the issue is a power loss or an internal encoder failure.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and engage the battery disconnect switch to prevent electrical spikes during repair.

  2. Access the ACM

Remove the screws securing the right-hand console/armrest cover to expose the internal wiring and the Armrest Controller Module.

  3. Harness Repair (If Applicable)

If the diagnostic tests revealed a broken wire or damaged connector pin in the armrest harness, repair the wiring using OEM-approved connectors and heat-shrink tubing. Route the harness carefully to ensure it does not bind when the armrest is adjusted.

  4. Replace the Joystick (If Applicable)

If the wiring and voltages test good, the internal circuitry of the Multi-Function Handle has failed. Unbolt the joystick assembly from the armrest console. Disconnect the main electrical plug. Install the new Multi-Function Handle and secure the mounting hardware. Plug in the electrical connector, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place.

  5. Reassembly

Reinstall the armrest covers and trim pieces.

  6. Calibration

Turn on the battery disconnect and power up the tractor. Clear the inactive 2660-09 fault code via the Pro 1200 display. You may need to perform a joystick/transmission calibration procedure through the display's diagnostic menu to sync the new handle with the ACM.
