Case IH 2662 (517961.11) - DEC – Transmission Controller (TCU / Trans module): Clutch ODD Solenoid - Generic Error

Issue description

The controller has detected an electrical anomaly—most commonly an open circuit or a short to ground—on the Odd Clutch Solenoid circuit.

Applies to these machines

  • MAXXUM T4E
  • Case IH Magnum Series
  • Case IH Puma Series
  • Case IH Maxxum Series
  • Case IH Optum & Vestrum Series

Check the cause

  1. Check the wiring harness between the Transmission Controller and the Odd Clutch Solenoid for chafing, open circuits, or shorts to ground.

  2. Inspect the solenoid's electrical connector for moisture, corrosion, or pushed-out pins.

  3. Measure the resistance of the Odd Clutch Solenoid coil with a multimeter to verify it is within OEM specification (not internally open or shorted).

  4. Verify that the 5-volt reference and ground circuits from the Transmission controller are present and stable.

Repair steps

  1. Prep the Machine

Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Locate the Solenoid

Locate the transmission control valve block where the clutch solenoids are mounted (typically on the side of the transmission housing). Identify the specific solenoid for the Odd clutches.

  3. Disconnect

Unplug the electrical connector from the Odd Clutch Solenoid.

  4. Removal

Remove the retaining bolt or bracket holding the solenoid in place. Carefully pull the solenoid cartridge out of the valve block. Have a catch pan ready, as residual hydraulic fluid will leak out.

  5. Installation

Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean transmission fluid. Insert the new solenoid into the valve block and torque the retaining bolt to OEM spec.

  6. Reassembly

Reconnect the electrical harness and reconnect the tractor's battery.

  7. Calibration

Clear the fault codes using a diagnostic tool. Crucial step: You must perform a transmission clutch calibration. The controller needs to learn the fill times and pressures for the new solenoid to ensure smooth shifting.
