Case IH 2663 (517959.11) - DEC – Transmission Control Unit (TCU): Clutch EVEN Solenoid open circuit or short to ground
Issue description
This fault indicates an open circuit or a short to ground in the circuit controlling the 'Even' clutch solenoid (Clutch Solenoid B). The transmission controller sends a voltage signal to command the solenoid to open or close hydraulic flow, but the return voltage is either missing (open circuit) or dropping out completely (short to ground). This typically causes the transmission to lose even-numbered gears, shift harshly, or default to a protective limp mode.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness from the Transmission Control Unit to the transmission valve block for rubbed-through insulation (short to ground) or broken wires (open circuit).
Disconnect the Even Clutch Solenoid connector and check for pushed-back pins, corrosion, or water ingress.
Perform a coil resistance test on the solenoid pins using a multimeter. An infinite reading indicates an internal open circuit, while 0 ohms indicates an internal short.
Perform a swap test by exchanging the Even Clutch Solenoid with the Odd Clutch Solenoid (or C1-2 solenoid). Clear codes; if the fault moves to the Odd Solenoid, the solenoid is faulty. If it remains on the Even circuit, the issue is in the harness or TCU.
Check the transmission oil for heavy contamination or burnt odors, which can cause solenoids to stick mechanically.
Repair steps
Prep the Machine
Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, lower all implements, and turn off the engine.
Relieve Pressure
Cycle the hydraulic and transmission controls to relieve any residual system pressure.
Locate the Valve Block
Locate the powershift transmission control valve block, typically mounted on the right side of the transmission housing.
Clean the Area
Thoroughly clean the area around the Even Clutch Solenoid with brake cleaner and compressed air. Do not allow dirt to enter the transmission valve body.
Remove the Solenoid
Disconnect the electrical pigtail. Unbolt the retaining bracket or mounting bolts securing the solenoid to the valve body and carefully pull the solenoid cartridge out.
Install the New Solenoid
Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean Case IH Hy-Tran transmission fluid. Carefully slide it into the valve body bore, ensuring the O-rings do not pinch or roll.
Secure and Reconnect
Torque the mounting bolts to OEM specifications and plug in the electrical connector.
Clear Codes and Calibrate
Turn the key on, use the AFS Pro display (or diagnostic tool) to clear the stored fault codes. Crucial step: You must perform a transmission clutch calibration procedure (often requiring the transmission fluid to be warmed up to a specific temperature) so the TCU can learn the engagement point of the new solenoid.
