Case IH 2666 – ECM / TECU: Battery voltage high condition detected
Issue description
The machine's electrical system voltage has exceeded the manufacturer's maximum specified threshold for a prolonged period (typically above 15 volts on a 12V system, or above 32 volts on a 24V system). The control module continuously monitors the charging system to protect sensitive electronic components. When voltage regulation fails, this code is triggered to prevent permanent damage to the Controller Area Network (CAN), sensors, and the module itself.

Check the cause
Verify system voltage using a digital multimeter at the battery terminals (should be 12.4V–12.8V with engine off, and not exceed 14.4V on 12V systems or 28.8V on 24V systems at high idle).
Inspect the alternator connector for corrosion, moisture intrusion, or pushed-back pins, and check the wiring harness for chafing along the engine block.
Check main ECM ground connections (e.g., G101, G102) for corrosion buildup, which can create voltage reference errors.
Test the battery for high internal resistance, which can cause voltage spikes.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable(s) to ensure safety and prevent short circuits.
Clean Grounds
Clean all battery terminals and main ECM ground connections with a wire brush to eliminate any high-resistance conditions.
Remove the Alternator
Relieve tension on the engine drive belt and remove it from the alternator pulley. Disconnect the electrical harness and the B+ output cable from the rear of the alternator. Remove the mounting bolts and extract the alternator.
Install New Alternator
Mount the replacement alternator assembly and torque the mounting bolts to OEM specifications. Reconnect the B+ cable and the electrical harness.
Reinstall Drive Belt
Route the drive belt back over the alternator pulley and restore proper tension.
Test and Clear Codes
Reconnect the negative battery cable. Start the engine and use a DMM to verify that the charging voltage is now within the normal operating range. Connect a diagnostic tool (such as the Case IH Electronic Service Tool - EST) to clear the fault code from the ECM/TECU memory.
