Case IH 2671-02 - ACM – ACM: Joystick x-axis lever left negative position status circuit fault
Issue description
Circuit failure related to the joystick's negative position status. The control module is detecting an electrical fault (such as an open circuit, short to ground, or short to power) in the potentiometer/sensor that monitors the negative travel (back or left) of the armrest joystick.
Applies to these machines
9 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Magnum 180
- Magnum 200
- Magnum 220
- Magnum 240
- Magnum 380
- Magnum 400
- Steiger AFS Connect
- Optum
Check the cause
Verify the ACM configuration using the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to ensure the fault is not triggered by an incorrect configuration.
Inspect the 5-volt reference circuit supplying the armrest sensors to ensure it is not dropping below or spiking above required limits.
Remove the armrest covers and inspect the wiring harness between the joystick base and the ACM for chafed wires, pinched harnesses, or loose connector pins.
Back-probe the joystick connector with a multimeter and perform a potentiometer sweep test by slowly moving the joystick through the affected axis to check for dead spots, open circuits, or a short to ground/battery.
Repair steps
Safety Prep
Park the tractor on a level surface, apply the parking brake, turn off the ignition, and disconnect the negative battery terminal.
Access the Joystick
Carefully pry up or unscrew the trim panels on the operator's armrest console to expose the ACM and the base of the joystick assembly.
Connector Maintenance
Disconnect the main electrical plug at the base of the joystick. Inspect for pushed-out pins, moisture, or corrosion. Clean the contacts with an electronic contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease. Reconnect and test; if the code clears, the issue was a poor connection.
Replace the Joystick Assembly
If the multimeter test confirms the internal potentiometer has failed (open/short circuit), the joystick assembly must be replaced. (CNH typically does not service the internal X/Y axis potentiometers individually).
Installation
Mount the new joystick assembly into the armrest console and plug in the wiring harness.
Reassembly
Snap or screw the armrest console covers back into place.
Calibration
Reconnect the battery and power on the tractor. Connect the Case IH EST laptop, clear the inactive 2671-02 / 2675-02 fault codes, and run the joystick calibration routine so the ACM learns the new potentiometer voltage limits.
Parts you might need
(1)Armrest Joystick Assembly / Multi-Function Handle (MFH) Joystick
Exact part numbers vary heavily by the specific tractor configuration (e.g., number of hydraulic remotes). You will need to look up the specific PIN/Serial Number in the CNH parts catalog. Genuine Case IH / CNH Industrial. The internal joystick components for these armrests are frequently manufactured by OEM suppliers like Penny & Giles (e.g., JC6000 series) or Bosch Rexroth. If a new OEM assembly is cost-prohibitive, specialized heavy-duty electronic repair shops (like CV Electronics) offer rebuild services for these specific Penny & Giles agricultural joysticks.
