Case IH 2672 – Cab Controller, Implement Control Module, ECM, or PCM: Joystick 1 Grip X-Axis Lever Left Negative Position Status (SPN 2672) / Injection Pump Timing Offset (P2672)
Issue description
SPN 2672 indicates an out-of-range or negative position reading from the primary joystick's X-axis sensor. P2672 indicates that the Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected the diesel injection pump timing is operating outside of its calibrated limits.
Applies to these machines
3 machines- Steiger T4B
- Case IH tractors and heavy equipment utilizing J1939 CAN data links and electronic joystick controls
- Case IH equipment utilizing electronically controlled diesel injection pumps
Check the cause
For P2672 (Injection Pump fault): Connect a diagnostic scan tool to retrieve codes and review live data for ECM timing-signal deviations.
For P2672 (Injection Pump fault): Inspect the wiring harness and connectors at the injection pump actuator for damage, pushed-out pins, poor contact, or corrosion.
For P2672 (Injection Pump fault): Check the mechanical timing (timing belt, chain, or gear) between the injection pump and the engine to ensure nothing has slipped.
For P2672 (Injection Pump fault): Test the crankshaft and camshaft position sensors, as faulty sensors can provide incorrect reference data to the ECM.
For P2672 (Injection Pump fault): Verify that there is not a low or unstable fuel supply or low fuel rail pressure.
Repair steps
Resolve Wiring Faults
If the visual inspection reveals damaged wiring or corroded connectors at the injection pump timing control solenoid/actuator, repair or replace the affected harness sections.
Correct Mechanical Timing
If the mechanical timing is found to be slipped or incorrect, realign the timing gears/chain to the manufacturer's exact specifications.
Replace Faulty Sensors
If the camshaft or crankshaft position sensors are failing to provide accurate timing signals to the ECM, replace them.
Software Calibration
If wiring, sensors, and mechanical timing are all verified as good, the issue may stem from an outdated software calibration. Reprogram/flash the ECM with the latest OEM software calibration.
Module Replacement
If the ECM's internal circuitry or flash memory is damaged and will not accept a calibration update, the ECM/PCM must be replaced and programmed to the machine's VIN/Serial Number.
