Issue description

Indicates a normal system protection state: the transmission fluid is below the minimum operating threshold of -7°C (19°F), and the machine's hydrostatic unit has automatically initiated a warmup procedure to prevent damage to the hydraulic pumps and motors.

Check the cause

  1. Check Ambient Temperature: Confirm if the ambient temperature is actually near or below -7°C (19°F). If it is, the machine is operating as designed.

  2. Verify Fluid Levels: Ensure the transmission/hydraulic reservoir has adequate fluid levels using the machine's sight glass or dipstick.

  3. Sensor Verification: If the ambient temperature is warm but the code still triggers, use a diagnostic tool to monitor the live data for the Transmission Oil Temperature Sensor. If the sensor reads -7°C (19°F) on a warm day, the sensor or its wiring harness is faulty.

  4. Check for Related Codes: Look for voltage-related codes (such as P2684 for Actuator Supply Voltage Open Circuit) which might indicate a wiring harness issue causing the temperature sensor to drop out.

Repair steps

  1. Start the engine and allow it to idle.

    Perform this and the following two steps if the machine is genuinely cold.

  2. Do not attempt to drive or put heavy loads on the hydrostatic unit.

  3. Wait for the automated warmup procedure to complete and the transmission oil to reach operating temperature (typically above 10°C/50°F) as per the operator's manual. The code will clear itself.

  4. Locate the transmission oil temperature sensor on the hydrostatic drive unit or transmission valve block.

    Perform this and the following steps if the temperature sensor is proven faulty (reading cold when the machine is warm).

  5. Disconnect the electrical harness connector.

  6. Inspect the pins for corrosion or pushed-out terminals.

  7. Unthread the faulty temperature sensor (have a catch pan ready for minor fluid loss).

  8. Install the new sensor and torque to OEM specifications.

  9. Reconnect the harness and top off the transmission fluid with Case IH Hy-Tran fluid.
