Case IH 2685-02 - ACM – ACM: Joystick shuttle forward switch circuit fault
Issue description
This code indicates an electrical fault—such as an open circuit, short to ground, or out-of-range voltage—in the forward shuttle switch circuit located on the armrest joystick. The system cannot verify the physical position of the joystick's forward shuttle command.
Applies to these machines
7 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Magnum AFS Connect Series (180, 200, 250, 280, 310, 340, 380, 400)
- Puma Series (130 through 240, including CVX and Multicontroller variants)
- Maxxum Series (115 through 145, ActiveDrive and CVXDrive)
- Steiger / Quadtrac Series (350, 400, 450, 500, 550, 600)
- Optum Series
- Vestrum Series
Check the cause
Physical Inspection: Inspect the joystick's forward shuttle switch for physical damage, sticking, or debris preventing full travel.
Wiring & Connections: Remove the armrest panel and inspect the wiring harness connecting the joystick to the ACM. Look for pinched wires, loose connector pins, or corrosion.
EST Monitoring: Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST). Go to the Monitor screen and observe the joystick switch states. Verify if the ACM registers any voltage change when the forward switch is engaged.
Software Verification: Check if there is a pending software update for the ACM. Case IH frequently releases ACM software updates to resolve false error codes and calibration issues related to the joystick and Electronic Hydraulic Remote (EHR) levers.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts while working inside the armrest.
Access the ACM
Remove the screws securing the top cover of the MultiControl armrest to expose the joystick base and the ACM.
Test the Circuit
Disconnect the joystick harness from the ACM. Use a multimeter to test the continuity of the forward shuttle switch circuit while pressing the button. If the switch fails the continuity test, the joystick assembly must be replaced (the switches are typically not serviced individually).
Replace the Component
If the joystick is faulty, unbolt the joystick base, disconnect the main harness, and install the new joystick. If the joystick tests fine but the ACM is not outputting the correct 5V reference or reading the signal, replace the ACM.
Reassembly & Calibration
Reconnect all harnesses and reinstall the armrest cover.
Software Calibration
Using the EST, perform the ACM calibration procedure. You must calibrate the new joystick detent positions and the EHR levers so the ACM learns the new minimum/maximum voltage values.
Clear Codes
Clear the 2685-02 fault code and test the forward shuttle operation in the field.
