Case IH 2686 (628.12) - DEC – DEC: SMP Intervention - SMP Init check of RAM, ROM, CORE failed
Issue description
The controller is stuck in boot mode or has suffered an internal software/hardware failure. The module failed its internal self-diagnostic checks of its microprocessor, ROM, and RAM during startup.
Applies to these machines
2 machines- MAXXUM T4E
- VESTRUM CVX
Check the cause
Verify the DEC module is receiving proper voltage and ground, as low voltage can cause memory initialization failures
Repair steps
Re-flash controller software
Re-flash (reprogram) the controller software to attempt to resolve the hard internal memory failure.
Replace control unit
If reprogramming does not resolve the issue, replace the control unit entirely.
Parts you might need
(1)DEC Control Unit / Electronic Control Module (ECM)
Requires dealer-level programming (using the Case IH Electronic Service Tool) to flash the correct firmware and machine configuration onto the new unit's ROM.
