Case IH 2691-02 - ACM – ACM: Joystick gear shift switch circuit fault
Issue description
The system has detected an electrical circuit malfunction—such as an open circuit, short to ground, or out-of-range voltage—specifically on the gear shift switch located on the Multicontroller joystick.

Check the cause
Inspect the Multicontroller joystick to ensure the gear up/shift switch is not mechanically stuck, damaged, or obstructed by dirt and debris.
Use the AFS Pro 1200 display to check for other related ACM fault codes (such as 2689-02, 2686-02, 2685-02, or 2681-02) which indicate a broader failure of the joystick assembly or disconnected harness.
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the joystick and the Armrest Control Module (ACM) for loose pins, corrosion, or chafed wires causing a short or open circuit.
Verify the ACM software version (e.g., version 1.1.0.0, software part number 48010791) is up to date, as firmware updates can resolve control module logic errors.
Repair steps
Disconnect battery
Power down the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts while working on the sensitive armrest components.
Access armrest internals
Carefully remove the trim panels and covers on the Multicontroller armrest to access the internal wiring, the joystick assembly, and the Armrest Control Module (ACM).
Inspect joystick connector
Disconnect the electrical connector at the base of the joystick and inspect the pins for damage or spread terminals.
Test circuit continuity
Test the continuity of the gear up switch circuit. Because the switches are integrated into the Multicontroller joystick, an internal failure usually requires replacing the entire joystick lever assembly or the armrest ECU.
Replace faulty component
Remove the mounting hardware securing the faulty joystick or ECU and install the replacement component.
Reassemble armrest
Reconnect the wiring harnesses securely and reinstall the armrest covers.
Clear fault code
Reconnect the battery, turn on the tractor, and use the AFS Pro 1200 display or a dealer diagnostic tool to clear the 2691-02 fault code.
Test operation
Test the gear up switch during operation to confirm the transmission shifts correctly and the code does not return.
