Case IH 2692-02 - ACM – ACM: Joystick gear down switch circuit fault
Issue description
The system has detected an electrical anomaly—such as an open circuit, a short to ground, a short to power, or an unexpected voltage value—in the circuit for the "gear down" (downshift) button located on the tractor's Multi-Function Handle (MFH) or joystick.
Applies to these machines
6 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Magnum series
- Magnum 180-340
- Steiger series
- Puma series
- CVX series
Check the cause
Inspect the gear down button on the joystick for physical damage, sticking, or debris that might be holding the switch down.
Access the wiring beneath the armrest console and inspect the harness and connectors running between the Multi-Function Handle and the ACM for loose pins, corrosion, or wire chafing.
Using a multimeter, test the gear down switch circuit for continuity when the button is pressed, and verify there is no short to ground or short to power when the button is released.
Verify that the ACM is communicating properly on the CAN bus, as communication drops can sometimes trigger erratic switch faults.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.
Disassemble the Armrest
Remove the bezel, trim pieces, and mounting screws securing the Multi-Function Handle (joystick) to the armrest console.
Disconnect the Joystick
Carefully lift the joystick assembly and disconnect the electrical wiring harness connectors from the base of the handle.
Replace the Component
On most modern Case IH Multi-Function Handles, individual switches are not serviced separately; the entire joystick/MFH assembly must be replaced if the internal switch circuit has failed. Install the new joystick assembly.
Reassembly
Reconnect the wiring harness to the new joystick. Seat the joystick back into the armrest and secure it with the mounting screws and bezel.
Calibration
Reconnect the battery. Turn the key on, clear the stored fault codes, and use the tractor's display or a diagnostic tool to perform a joystick/transmission calibration, ensuring the ACM recognizes the new handle's inputs.
