Case IH 2692 – ZTC: CAN Message AXCTL1 Checksum Incorrect
Issue description
The ZTC module received a CAN message designated as AXCTL1, but the checksum was incorrect. This indicates the data packet was corrupted, interrupted, or mismatched, which can be caused by software glitches, faulty wiring, or a failing module transceiver.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- Steiger T4B
- Case IH Steiger / Magnum
- Case IH Optum / Puma LWB (Long Wheelbase)
- Case IH Sprayers
Check the cause
Check if there is a software update available for the ZTC controller or the module broadcasting the AXCTL1 message
Inspect the CAN bus wiring harness connecting to the ZTC module for chafed wires, moisture intrusion in the connectors, or loose pins
Test the CAN network for proper voltage and terminating resistance to ensure the physical layer is not distorting messages
Repair steps
Clean and secure connections
Clean and secure all connections to the ZTC controller.
Repair wiring
Repair any damaged sections of the CAN bus wiring harness.
Reflash software
Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) and reflash the ZTC module with the latest software.
Replace module
If wiring is intact and software is up-to-date but the code persists, the ZTC module itself may have a failing internal CAN transceiver and will require replacement.
Parts you might need
(2)ZTC Controller / ZTC Module (VPI 1)
Must be ordered specific to the tractor/sprayer serial number and requires programming via CNH EST upon installation.
