Case IH 2712 – ZTC: ZTC - CAN message PTCTL2 signal TLOP error or not available

Issue description

The fault indicates a Controller Area Network (CAN) bus communication error. Specifically, the PTCTL2 (Powertrain Control 2) message, which carries the TLOP (Transmission Lubrication Oil Pressure) signal, is experiencing a timeout, is invalid, or is completely unavailable on the network. This means the control system is not receiving the required transmission lubrication oil pressure data to safely monitor and operate the transmission.

Applies to these machines

  • Steiger T4B
  • Steiger

Check the cause

  1. Check the CAN bus wiring harness for broken wires, defective connectors, or open circuits between the transmission sensors, the engine controller, and the ZTC module.

  2. Test the CAN network for short circuits to vehicle ground or battery voltage, which can cause interference and message timeouts.

  3. Verify the physical Transmission Lubrication Oil Pressure sensor and its supply voltage to ensure it is not electrically defective.

Repair steps

  1. Locate the break or short in the wiring harness

Locate the break or short in the wiring harness between the TLOP sensor and the ZTC.

  2. Repair the damaged wire/connector

Repair the damaged wire or connector found during the harness inspection.

  3. Replace the Transmission Lubrication Oil Pressure sensor

Replace a failed Transmission Lubrication Oil Pressure sensor if it is internally shorted.
