Case IH 2714 – Transmission Control Unit (TCU) or Vehicle Drive Controller (VDC): PTCTL2 CAN message and calibration error

   Check CAN bus wiring between the User Controller (UC) and Transmission Controller for broken wires, shorts to ground, or shorts to battery voltage

   Verify the User Controller (UC) status to ensure it is transmitting data and has not been knocked offline (BusOff state)

   Check if a recent transmission or sensor calibration (such as synchronizer gears or pedal travel sensors) was initiated but failed to complete successfully

   Harness Inspection

   Disconnect the main battery. Inspect and clean the CAN bus connectors at the Transmission Controller and the main Vehicle Controller. Reconnect and ensure pins are not pushed back or corroded.

   Clear and Retest

   Power the tractor on and use an OEM diagnostic tool (like the Case IH Electronic Service Tool) to clear the error memory.

   Perform Full Calibration

   If the code returns as a 'CAL error', you must perform a full calibration routine for the transmission. This includes calibrating the synchronizer gears and pedal travel sensors so the ECU can establish the upper and lower reference points.

   Software Flash/Module Replacement

   If the calibration fails to save or the PTCTL2 CRC check remains invalid, the controller software may be corrupted. The controller will need to be re-flashed with the correct dataset by a dealer, or the module itself must be replaced.
