Case IH 2718 (518375.03) - DEC – DEC: DUMP Solenoid - LSD short to high voltage
Issue description
The low side driver circuit controlling the Dump Solenoid is experiencing a voltage that is above normal, meaning it is shorted to a high voltage source (typically 12V battery power).
Applies to these machines
5 machines- VESTRUM CVX
- Maxxum
- Steiger
- Puma
- Magnum
Check the cause
Disconnect the dump valve solenoid coil wiring connector. If the fault code changes to an 'open circuit' code, it indicates the short is likely within the solenoid coil itself.
If the code does not change, check the wiring harness between the DEC/ECM and the dump solenoid for any areas where the wire might be chafed and shorting to a 12-volt power source.
Inspect related shuttle handles or switches for looseness or shorted connections to mounting brackets, as these can sometimes feed improper voltage into the circuit.
Repair steps
Locate the dump solenoid
Locate the dump solenoid on the transmission/hydraulic valve block.
Perform diagnostic disconnection test
Perform the diagnostic disconnection test mentioned above.
Repair or replace wiring
If the wiring harness is shorted to a high voltage source, locate the damaged section of the harness and repair or replace the wiring.
Replace dump solenoid coil
If the solenoid coil is internally shorted to voltage, remove the retaining nut/bolt, slide the old solenoid coil off the valve stem, and replace it with a new dump solenoid coil.
Clear fault codes
Clear the fault codes and verify operation.
