Case IH 2723 (517967.06) - DEC – Transmission Control Module (TCM): Clutch B solenoid - LSD short to HSD

An electrical short circuit in the transmission's Clutch B proportional solenoid circuit where the Low Side Driver (ground control side) is shorted directly to the High Side Driver (power supply side). This prevents the control module from modulating hydraulic pressure to Clutch B, resulting in the transmission being disabled or losing specific gears.

   Check for other active transmission error codes, as multiple codes might indicate a broader harness issue.

   Access the solenoid by removing the cab floor panel or access panel to reach the transmission control valve block.

   Test the solenoid resistance by disconnecting the electrical connector (e.g., C162 or X-953) and measuring across the solenoid pins with a multimeter. The resistance should be approximately 10 Ohms. If it is not, the solenoid is internally shorted or faulty.

   If the solenoid tests okay, check the wiring harness for a short. Test the wires between the TCM and the solenoid connector for a short to ground or a short to +12V.

   Safely Park the Machine

   Ensure the tractor is on level ground, the engine is off, and the parking brake is engaged.

   Gain Access

   Remove the cab floor mat and access panel to expose the transmission valve block.

   Disconnect and Remove

   Disconnect the wiring harness from the Clutch B solenoid. If your diagnostics proved the solenoid is faulty, remove the retaining bolt or snap ring holding the solenoid in the valve block.

   Install the New Solenoid

   Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean transmission fluid. Insert it into the valve block and secure it.

   Harness Repair (If Applicable)

   If the diagnostic tests indicated a short in the wiring rather than the solenoid, locate the chafed or melted section of the harness and repair the wires, or replace the affected harness section.

   Reassemble and Calibrate

   Reconnect the electrical connector. Reinstall the cab floor. Use the tractor's display or a diagnostic tool to clear the fault codes and perform a Clutch B Calibration procedure so the TCM can learn the engagement characteristics of the new solenoid.
