Case IH 2725 (517966.17) - DEC – DEC: CLTA Solenoid - LSD short to GND
Issue description
The Low Side Driver (LSD) circuit for the Clutch A (CLTA) Solenoid is shorted to ground (GND). The control module has detected that the return/control wire is inappropriately grounded before or inside the solenoid, or the solenoid itself is internally shorted, preventing the controller from regulating current to Clutch A.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the wiring harness running from the DEC to the transmission valve block for chafed, rubbed, or pinched wires grounding against the chassis or transmission housing.
Disconnect the Clutch A solenoid (Y23 or C028) and DEC connectors to inspect pins for corrosion, moisture, or bent terminals.
Use a multimeter to check the Low Side Driver wire for continuity to ground with both ends disconnected (tests for a shorted harness).
Measure the resistance across the pins of the Clutch A solenoid itself (a reading near zero ohms indicates an internal short).
Repair steps
Safely park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery.
Ensure the machine is safe to work on before beginning repairs.
Relieve any residual hydraulic pressure in the transmission system.
Prevents fluid spray and injury when removing hydraulic components.
Locate the transmission external control valve block where the Clutch A solenoid is mounted.
Often located under the cab floor or on the side of the transmission housing.
Thoroughly clean the area around the solenoid.
Prevents dirt from entering the hydraulic system during removal.
Disconnect the electrical connector from the Clutch A solenoid.
Isolates the solenoid for removal.
Repair or replace the damaged section of the harness if the diagnostic tests pointed to a wiring issue.
If the solenoid is faulty instead, proceed to the next step.
Remove the retaining bolt or snap ring holding the solenoid in the valve block and carefully pull the solenoid out.
Extracts the faulty solenoid from the valve block.
Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean transmission fluid.
Ensures a proper seal and prevents O-ring damage during installation.
Insert the new solenoid into the valve block and secure it with the retaining hardware.
Tighten to the OEM specified torque.
Reconnect the electrical connector and the battery.
Restores power and communication to the solenoid.
Clear the fault codes using a diagnostic tool.
Removes the inactive fault from the DEC memory.
Perform a transmission clutch calibration procedure.
Crucial Step: Often accessed via the H-Menu or diagnostic switch so the DEC can learn the fill times and pressures for the new Clutch A solenoid.
