2740 (1044.11) - DEC

Case IH 2740 (1044.11) - DEC – Transmission / Drivetrain Controller: Hydro solenoid - generic/unknown error

Issue description

The exact fault code 2740 (1044.11) - DEC does not appear in published Case IH literature. Code 1044 typically indicates a fuel level sensor shorted low or an implausible configuration message. Hydro solenoid faults are monitored by the Transmission/Drivetrain Controller.

Applies to these machines

  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Puma CVX Tractors (165, 180, 195, 210, 225)
  • Axial-Flow Combines (20 Series)

Check the cause

  1. Using the diagnostic display, check the hydro solenoid current. On Puma CVX models, Channel 113 X955 (CN3B) 07 should read 380 when in Neutral with the engine at idle.

  2. Verify the synchronizer position potentiometers (e.g., CN4-14, CN4-21) are reading within the correct ranges (e.g., 41 to 56 in Neutral).

  3. Check the wiring harness for an open circuit or a short to ground (below 2.0 ohms).

Repair steps

  1. Bring the machine to a safe stop.

Bring the machine to a safe stop.

  2. Move the Multi-Function Handle (MFH) back into the NEUTRAL zone.

Move the Multi-Function Handle (MFH) back into the NEUTRAL zone to reset the system.

  3. Retrieve the active fault from the ECU memory.

If the fault persists, use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to retrieve the active fault from the ECU memory, as manual clearing via the INC/DEC keys is not supported on all ICU software versions.

  4. Test the voltage at the solenoid connector and replace the hydro solenoid if necessary.

Test the voltage at the solenoid connector and replace the hydro solenoid if it fails to energize or falls outside the 380-750 current range.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Ground Drive Hydro Solenoid / Transmission Synchronizer Solenoid

Ensure compatibility with either the Axial-Flow hydrostatic drive system or the Puma CVX transmission valve block.
