2743 (517967.11) - DEC

Case IH 2743 (517967.11) - DEC – DEC / TCM: Clutch B Solenoid Error

Issue description

An electrical or hydraulic malfunction in the proportional solenoid valve that controls the engagement of Clutch B inside the transmission.

Applies to these machines

  • VESTRUM CVX
  • MXM Series (MXM 120, 130, 140, 155, 175, 190)
  • Maxxum Series (Tier 3 and newer)
  • Puma Series (e.g., Puma 210)
  • Farmall Pro EP Series (95U, 105U, 115U)

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the transmission wiring harness for short circuits to ground or battery, specifically on the proportional valve circuit for Clutch B and the valve power supply (VPS1).

  2. Use a DVOM to test the resistance of the Clutch B solenoid to ensure it is not internally open or shorted.

  3. Verify if the issue is hydraulic rather than electrical by checking for a mismatch between the Clutch B pressure sensor reading and the solenoid current.

  4. Attempt to recalibrate the transmission clutches by entering the H-Menu or calibration mode and using the 'h' (increase) and 'm' (decrease) buttons, or the downshift button, to step through clutches A, B, C, D, and E.

Repair steps

  1. Access the valve block

Locate the transmission control valve block on the side of the transmission housing.

  2. Inspect the harness

Disconnect the main TCM harness and the specific connector for the Clutch B solenoid. Clean the contacts and check for pushed-out pins or corrosion.

  3. Replace the solenoid

If the solenoid fails the resistance test or is mechanically stuck, remove the retaining bolt or bracket for the Clutch B solenoid valve and extract the valve.

  4. Install new valve

Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid valve with clean transmission fluid, insert it into the valve block, and torque the retaining fastener to OEM spec.

  5. Clear codes and calibrate

Reconnect the battery and clear the inactive fault codes using an EST laptop or the keypad. Perform a full transmission clutch calibration to teach the TCM the fill times and engagement pressures for the new Clutch B solenoid.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Clutch B Proportional Solenoid Valve

Ensure the replacement solenoid matches the specific clutch designation (A, B, C, D, E). Look up the specific part number based on the exact tractor model's serial number.
