Case IH 2754 (519631.19) - DEC – Electronic Park Brake (EPL) Controller: CAN 1 - Epl_StsNeg Error on CAN1
Issue description
Negative status, missing message, or data error being received over the Controller Area Network 1 (CAN 1) bus regarding the Electronic Park Brake system.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- MAXXUM T4E
- VESTRUM CVX
- Puma Series (including Puma 165, 180, 195, 210, 225 CVX)
- Magnum Series (AFS Connect models)
Check the cause
Inspect the CAN 1 High and CAN 1 Low connections at the EPL module and the ECU (circuits 6415 and 6416).
Check the Electronic Park Brake (EPL) Controller wire harnesses (e.g., electrical schematic frame 06) for physical damage, chafing, or screen braid integrity.
Verify there is no short circuit to ground, short circuit to the power supply, or open circuit on the EPL module pins (such as pins A4 or C7).
Repair steps
Access diagnostics
Access the diagnostic menu via the ADIC (Advanced Diagnostic Instrument Cluster) or connect the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the diagnostic connector.
Clear historical errors
Clear the historical errors to see if the Epl_StsNeg fault is active or stored.
Inspect connectors
Disconnect the EPL Controller and inspect the harness connectors for corrosion or pushed-out pins.
Test continuity
Perform a continuity test on the CAN 1 HI and CAN 1 LO wires between the EPL controller and the main ECU.
Repair wiring
Repair any broken wires or replace the damaged section of the CAN harness.
Replace EPL Controller
If the wiring is fully intact and terminating resistance is correct (typically 60 ohms across the CAN bus), the EPL Controller itself may have an internal failure and require replacement and recalibration.
