Case IH 2760 (517799.19) - DEC – DEC: Flywheel not coherent with engine speed and PTO twist

Issue description

The control module has detected a mismatch (incoherence) between the rotational speed signals coming from the flywheel speed sensor, the engine speed sensor, and the PTO twist sensor. The FMI 19 portion indicates 'Received Network Data In Error' or data that is not plausible based on expected mechanical ratios. This usually points to a sensor failure, a wiring harness issue, or a loss of sensor calibration.

Applies to these machines

  • MAXXUM T4E
  • Puma 170
  • Puma 185
  • Puma 200
  • Puma 215
  • Puma 230
  • Puma 180-260 CVX/CVT
  • Magnum 210
  • Magnum 235-340
  • Magnum 310
  • Maxxum series
  • Steiger series

Check the cause

  1. Check wiring harnesses for the PTO twist sensor and the flywheel speed sensor for open circuits or short circuits to ground.

  2. Verify the 3-pin connector on the PTO twist sensor and the 2-pin connector on the flywheel speed sensor are securely seated, clean, and free of corrosion.

  3. Ensure the PTO was not accidentally engaged during a previous calibration attempt, which can throw the sensors out of calibration.

  4. Attempt to recalibrate the flywheel twist sensor and PTO twist sensor via the tractor's H-Menu / calibration menu before replacing parts.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and ensure the PTO is completely disengaged.

  2. Inspect and replace flywheel speed sensor

Locate the flywheel speed sensor (typically located on the right or left side of the engine block near the flywheel, depending on the exact engine model). Remove the sensor and inspect for physical damage. If faulty, replace it.

  3. Replace PTO twist sensor

Locate the PTO twist sensor at the rear PTO assembly. Disconnect the 3-pin connector and remove the sensor. Install the new sensor.

  4. Enter calibration mode

Enter the tractor's automated transmission/PTO calibration mode.

  5. Calibrate flywheel twist sensor

Follow the on-screen prompts. When the flywheel twist sensor is calibrating, the display will alternate between 'dt' and the calibration value.

  6. Calibrate PTO twist sensor

Release the downshift button, and the display will change to 'Pt'. Press and hold the downshift button to calibrate the PTO twist sensor. The display will alternate between 'Pt' and the calibration value.

  7. Save calibration values

Once all related clutches and sensors are calibrated, turn the ignition key switch OFF for at least 2 seconds to store the new calibration values in the DEC.
