Case IH 2807 – Transmission Control Unit (TCU): Transmission output rpm over speed

The control module has detected that the rotational speed of the transmission output shaft has exceeded the maximum safe operating limit. This can be triggered by an actual mechanical overspeed event, a malfunctioning transmission output speed sensor, or a wiring harness issue.

   Verify operating conditions: Determine if the tractor was actually overspeeding (e.g., traveling downhill with a heavy load). If so, clear the code and operate normally to see if it returns.

   Inspect the wiring harness: Trace the transmission output speed sensor harness (often labeled as harness 55.100.09 on Magnum models) and check for chafing, pinched wires, or shorts to power/ground.

   Inspect the connector: Disconnect the sensor and check the multi-pin weather-pack terminal plug for water ingress, corrosion, or bent pins.

   Test the sensor: Use a multimeter to check the resistance and continuity of the magnetic induction/Hall effect speed sensor against OEM specifications.

   Park and secure tractor

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine.

   Locate sensor

   Locate the transmission output speed sensor. It is typically mounted on the transmission housing (often on the right side or rearward near the hydraulic filter/drop box).

   Clean area

   Clean the area around the sensor thoroughly to prevent dirt or debris from entering the transmission casing when the sensor is removed.

   Disconnect connector

   Disconnect the electrical weather-pack connector from the sensor.

   Remove retaining bolt

   Remove the retaining bolt securing the sensor to the transmission housing.

   Remove old sensor

   Carefully pull the old sensor out of the port. Have a rag ready, as a small amount of transmission oil may seep out.

   Prepare new sensor

   Ensure the heavy-duty synthetic rubber O-ring on the new sensor is pre-installed and lubricate it lightly with clean transmission fluid.

   Install new sensor

   Insert the new sensor into the transmission housing port and secure it with the retaining bolt.

   Reconnect connector

   Reconnect the electrical connector.

    Clear codes and test

    Clear the fault codes using an Electronic Service Tool (EST) or the tractor's integrated diagnostic interface, and test drive the tractor to verify the speedometer readings are accurate and the code does not return.
