Case IH 2811 – Trans (Transmission Control Module / TCU): Transmission Oil Temperature Hot

Transmission fluid has exceeded the safe operating temperature threshold (above 110 degrees C), which can lead to degraded lubrication and potential transmission damage if ignored.

   Verify actual temperature by checking the transmission oil temperature gauge. If it is in the red zone, allow the machine to cool.

   Check transmission fluid levels and condition. Verify that the oil level is correct and that the fluid is not burnt or heavily degraded (low system pressure or fluid can cause overheating).

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the transmission oil temperature sensor for chafing, open circuits, or a short to ground/battery.

   Test the transmission oil temperature sensor's resistance using a multimeter. If it reads completely open or shorted, the sensor itself has failed.

   Cool Down

   Safely park the tractor, turn off the engine, and allow the transmission to cool completely to avoid burns from hot hydraulic/transmission fluid.

   Fluid Maintenance

   If the diagnostic check revealed low or degraded transmission oil, drain the old fluid, replace the transmission filters, and refill with the OEM-specified transmission oil to the correct level.

   Sensor Replacement

   If the sensor is electrically faulty (shorted/open), locate the transmission oil temperature sensor on the transmission housing.

   Removal

   Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the sensor. Unthread the faulty sensor from the housing (have a catch pan ready, as a small amount of oil may leak).

   Installation

   Thread the new OEM transmission oil temperature sensor into the port and tighten to factory specifications. Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Clear Codes

   Use a diagnostic tool or CAN-Bus DTC eraser to clear code 2811 (and any related codes like 2812 or 2813) from the Transmission ECU.

   Operational Test

   Start the engine and run the machine at full throttle while monitoring the transmission oil temperature gauge. Ensure the pointer stays in the center of the green (normal) zone during operation.
