Issue description
Triggered when the machine's hydraulic oil temperature exceeds 111°C (232°F) for a duration of at least 2 seconds. This indicates an overheating condition in the hydraulic system, which could be caused by a physical cooling issue, severe hydraulic load, or a skewed temperature sensor reporting a falsely high value.

Check the cause
Check Fluid Levels: Verify the hydraulic oil level in the reservoir. Low fluid volume causes the remaining oil to heat up rapidly.
Inspect the Cooling Package: Check the hydraulic oil cooler and radiator for blockages. Dirt, chaff, or debris packed into the cooling fins is the most common cause of hydraulic overheating.
Check Filter Restriction: Ensure the hydraulic filters are not clogged. Bypassing oil or heavy restriction can generate excess heat.
Live Data Monitoring: Use the Electronic Service Tool (EST) or the tractor's in-cab digital display to monitor the live hydraulic oil temperature. If the temperature reads 111°C (232°F) immediately upon a cold start, the sensor is skewed and needs replacement.
Harness Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the sensor for damage, corrosion, or loose pins that could cause high resistance and alter the sensor's voltage return.
Repair steps
Cool Down
Park the machine on a level surface, turn off the engine, and allow the hydraulic system to cool completely to avoid severe burn hazards.
Locate the Sensor
Locate the hydraulic oil temperature sensor. Depending on the specific Steiger/STX model, it is typically threaded into the PFC pump inlet manifold or directly into the hydraulic reservoir tank.
Disconnect Wiring
Carefully unplug the electrical connector from the sensor.
Remove the Sensor
Place a catch pan underneath the sensor area to catch residual hydraulic fluid. Unthread the faulty sensor from the manifold/tank.
Install the New Sensor
Thread the new OEM temperature sensor into the port. Tighten to the manufacturer's torque specification (do not overtighten, as these are often brass or delicate fittings).
Reconnect and Top Off
Reconnect the electrical harness. Check the hydraulic fluid level and top off any oil lost during the swap.
Clear Codes
Turn the key on, use the EST or cab monitor to clear the inactive 2824 fault code, and run the machine under load to verify the temperature reading remains in the normal operating range.
