Case IH 2843 (523785.15) - DEC – DEC: DEC: ECU Board Temperature Sensor - Board Temperature too high

This fault indicates that the internal temperature sensor mounted directly on the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) logic board has detected a temperature that exceeds its maximum safe operating threshold. This is a hardware-level protection warning designed to prevent thermal damage to the internal microcontrollers, chips, and circuit board components.

   Check the physical DEC module casing and its cooling fins for heavy accumulations of mud, dirt, or debris that could be acting as an insulator and preventing heat dissipation.

   Ensure that no external heat shields are missing and that the module is not being exposed to excessive radiant heat from an exhaust leak or DPF regeneration issue.

   Verify that the input voltage to the inverter/controller is within the admissible range, as overvoltage can cause internal components to overheat rapidly.

   Allow the machine to cool down completely, then cycle the power. If the 'Board Temperature too high' fault triggers immediately on a cold start when the physical board is cool to the touch, the internal temperature sensor itself has likely shorted or failed.

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

   Locate the DEC module.

   Refer to the specific model's service manual to determine if it is the transmission DEC or the DEF dosing DEC.

   Thoroughly clean the exterior of the module and the surrounding mounting area to restore proper airflow.

   Inspect the wiring harness for any shorts to power that could be back-feeding excessive current into the board.

   Reconnect the battery and power on the machine.

   Replace the entire DEC module if the fault returns immediately or if the board continues to genuinely overheat despite proper voltage and cooling.

   Internal ECU board temperature sensors are integrated into the circuitry and are not serviceable separately.
