2873-07 - BCM

Case IH 2873-07 - BCM – BCM: CAN main light switch - switch error

Issue description

Indicates a malfunction, signal error, or communication failure originating from the CAN-based field/main light switch.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Magnum 400 AFS Connect
  • Magnum 180-380
  • Steiger

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the physical condition of the CAN field light switch on the cab console for sticking buttons or physical damage

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the field light switch and the BCM for corroded pins, loose connections, opens, or shorts to ground/power

  3. Check if the BCM is logging other CAN communication fault codes (if multiple CAN codes are present, the issue may be a broader CAN bus wiring problem rather than an isolated switch failure)

Repair steps

  1. Turn off the ignition and disconnect the battery

    to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Carefully pry up or remove the console trim panel

to access the rear of the field light switch.

  3. Disconnect the electrical connector

from the faulty CAN field light switch.

  4. Depress the retaining tabs on the switch body

and push it out of the console bezel.

  5. Snap the new OEM light switch into the console

    and reconnect the wiring harness.

  6. Reinstall the console trim

    and reconnect the battery.

  7. Clear the BCM fault codes using a diagnostic tool

and test the field lights in all positions to verify the repair.
