2889

Case IH 2889 – Transmission Controller (TCU) or main vehicle/armrest controller: Park brake partial engagement condition detected. park brake pressure dropped below threshold for fully released park brake

Issue description

The hydraulic pressure required to keep the spring-applied, hydraulically released (SAHR) parking brake fully released has dropped below the minimum specified threshold, causing the mechanical springs to begin applying the brake.

Applies to these machines

  • Steiger T4B
  • Puma
  • Magnum
  • Steiger
  • Maxxum

Check the cause

  1. Isolate the system to determine whether the failure is a physical hydraulic system issue or an electrical sensing circuit failure.

  2. View the system hydraulic pressure via the tractor's diagnostic display or connect a manual hydraulic pressure gauge to the park brake circuit test port to see if the physical pressure is actually dropping.

  3. Check the park brake pressure switch/sensor for proper voltage and resistance. Inspect the wiring harness connecting the sensor to the controller for chafing, shorts, or open circuits.

  4. Ensure the transmission/hydraulic fluid is at the correct level and that hydraulic filters are not restricted, which can cause pressure drops.

Repair steps

  1. Electrical Fix

If the manual gauge shows good pressure but the sensor reads low, replace the Park Brake Pressure Switch/Sensor or repair the damaged wiring harness.

  2. Hydraulic Fix

If the physical pressure is actually dropping, inspect and replace the Park Brake Solenoid Valve if it is leaking internally or failing to direct full pressure to the brake release mechanism.

  3. Clear codes and test

Clear the fault codes using the machine's diagnostic interface and test drive to ensure the park brake pressure remains above the threshold during operation.
