Case IH 29 – Armrest Controller (ARM): Aux 1st remote valve LEVER potentiometer is failed.

Issue description

Malfunction in the electronic control lever for the number 1 auxiliary hydraulic remote valve. The controller detects that the signal from the 1st remote lever is missing, out of the acceptable voltage range, or erratic, causing the system to disable the 1st remote valve as a safety precaution.

Applies to these machines

  • MX Magnum
  • STX Steiger
  • Case IH Magnum series (including MX / TG series)
  • Case IH Steiger series
  • Case IH Puma series
  • Case IH Maxxum series (Tier 3 and newer with electronic joysticks/levers)

Check the cause

  1. Disconnect the tractor's battery for a short period to perform a system reset and see if the code clears.

  2. Open the armrest console and inspect the wiring harness and connector at the 1st remote valve lever for loose pins, corrosion, or chafed wires.

  3. Access the tractor's diagnostic menu or use the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to monitor the live voltage or percentage reading of the 1st remote lever. Move the lever slowly to check for erratic jumps or drop-offs.

  4. Attempt to run the Electro-Hydraulic Remote Valve Lever Calibration procedure. If it fails to complete, the potentiometer is definitively faulty.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Access the Armrest

Remove the retaining screws on the right-hand armrest console cover to expose the remote valve control lever assemblies.

  3. Remove the Faulty Component

Locate the 1st remote valve lever (usually the closest or primary lever). Disconnect its electrical connector. Remove the mounting screws/hardware securing the lever assembly or the individual potentiometer to the armrest frame.

  4. Install the New Part

Mount the replacement potentiometer or lever assembly into the armrest bracket.

  5. Reassemble

Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring the connector clicks securely into place. Reinstall the armrest console cover.

  6. Reconnect Power

    Reconnect the tractor's battery.

  7. Mandatory Calibration

You must perform the Electro-Hydraulic Remote Valve Lever Calibration procedure using the tractor's display monitor or the EST tool. This allows the Armrest Controller to learn the specific voltage values for the new potentiometer's Neutral, Full Extend, and Full Retract positions.
