Case IH 29 – Armrest Controller (ARM): Hitch Drop Rate potentiometer is failed in the Armrest Controller

The controller is detecting that the potentiometer's signal voltage is outside the normal operating range (either too high or too low), or its calibration values are out of range.

   Check for Related Codes: Verify if other fault codes are present. For example, code ARM 10091 indicates a 5V regulator failure in the Armrest Controller, which would cause all potentiometers to fail simultaneously.

   Inspect the Harness: Check the wiring harness between the Armrest Controller and the hitch controls for chafing, loose pins, or corrosion.

   Test the Potentiometer: Using a multimeter, verify the 5V reference voltage and ground at the potentiometer. Check the signal wire for a smooth resistance/voltage sweep as the drop rate dial is turned. (Standard armrest potentiometers on these models typically test around 2.7k ohms from the center pin to the outside pins).

   Attempt Calibration: Before replacing parts, attempt to recalibrate the Hitch Drop Rate potentiometer via the tractor's Pro 700 display (navigate to the Hitch Menu / Armrest Controller Calibration) to see if the values can be brought back into the acceptable range.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

   Disassemble the Armrest

   Remove the screws securing the armrest console cover to access the internal Armrest Controller module and the hitch control dials.

   Disconnect the wiring harness to the hitch drop rate potentiometer.

   Replace the Component

   If the potentiometer is a standalone serviceable part: Remove its retaining nut/clip, install the new potentiometer, and reconnect the harness. If the potentiometer is soldered directly to the Armrest Controller circuit board (common on MX and Steiger models): The entire Armrest Controller or instrument panel sub-assembly must be replaced.

   Secure the armrest console cover and reconnect the battery.

   Turn the key on, access the Pro 700 display, and perform the Armrest Controller Calibration procedure to teach the system the minimum and maximum voltage values of the new potentiometer.
