Case IH 29 – Transmission ECM / Power Shuttle ECM: CLUTCH PACK (A) NOT CALIBRATED

Issue description

Triggered when the key switch is in the 'ON' position and the system detects that Clutch Pack (A) lacks valid calibration values. This typically occurs if the Power Shuttle ECM was recently replaced, a Non-Volatile Memory Erasure (H8 procedure) was conducted, the Clutch Pack PWM Solenoids were replaced, the ECM's EEPROM/NVM memory is corrupted, or a previous calibration attempt failed.

Applies to these machines

  • JXC
  • TN55
  • TN60
  • TN65
  • TN70
  • TN75
  • Farmall 65C
  • Farmall 70
  • Farmall 75C
  • Farmall 95C
  • JX60
  • JX1060
  • JX1070
  • JX1075

Check the cause

  1. Review repair history to determine if the Power Shuttle ECM or the Clutch Pack PWM Solenoids were recently replaced, or if the memory was recently flashed/erased (H8 procedure).

  2. Check for 'U' Codes using the Customer Display Unit (CDU) or the Electronic Service Tool (EST) in the H1 menu to identify incorrect calibration values or failures.

  3. Verify ECM integrity to ensure it can hold calibration values; if values are corrupt in the EEPROM, the ECM may need replacement.

Repair steps

  1. Connect diagnostic tool

Connect the CDU or EST tool to the machine to access the H1 Menu.

  2. Navigate to Clutch A

Navigate the menu until the display shows 'A', which indicates that Clutch Pack A is ready for calibration.

  3. Begin calibration

Press and hold the downshift button to begin calibrating Clutch A.

  4. Hold button

Keep the button held. The display will show a value for several seconds while the system monitors engine speed stability and shifts the synchronizers.

  5. Complete calibration

The displayed value will then increase rapidly. Calibration is complete when the display alternates.

  6. Resolve errors if necessary

If a Calibration 'U' Error occurs during this process, it prevents completion. You must resolve the mechanical/electrical cause (e.g., replacing a faulty PWM solenoid) and restart the H1 procedure.

  7. Clear error code

Once calibration is successful, access the HF Menu using the CDU/EST to clear the error code.

Parts you might need

(4)
  • Clutch Pack (A) PWM Solenoid

Must be replaced if the solenoid is shorted/open and preventing the clutch from engaging during calibration.

  • Power Shuttle ECM

Replace if the internal EEPROM is corrupted and cannot save the H1 calibration values.

  • 11-Inch Powershift Clutch Kit

    F5181427N

Fits Case IH Farmall, JX, and TN Series tractors. (or F5181427N-KIT)

  • Transmission Clutch Pack Disc Kit

Required if the internal clutch pack is mechanically burnt or worn beyond calibration limits.
