Case IH 2902 – Transmission Control Unit (TCU / TRANS): Torque sensor has declared an internal fault tolerance (CCH Only)

The Transmission Control Unit is receiving a signal from the drivetrain torque sensor that falls outside of any normal operating range or standard fault range, pointing to an internal failure or tolerance issue within the sensor itself.

   Check Sensor Supply Voltage: Verify the voltage at the sensor connector. The system requires a 4.8-volt minimum supply (drops below 4.8V typically log code 2903).

   Check Sensor Gap: Inspect the physical installation of the sensor. A gap on the larger end of the acceptable tolerance can cause erratic readings (often accompanied by code 2900).

   Inspect the Wiring Harness: Check the wiring harness between the torque sensor and the Transmission Control Unit for any open circuits, shorts to ground, or shorts to power.

   Power down the tractor

   Power down the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.

   Locate the transmission torque sensor

   Locate the transmission torque sensor on the drivetrain/transmission housing.

   Disconnect the electrical harness

   Carefully disconnect the electrical harness connector from the torque sensor, checking the connector pins for any corrosion or damage.

   Remove the faulty torque sensor

   Unbolt and remove the faulty torque sensor from the housing.

   Install the new torque sensor

   Install the new torque sensor, ensuring it is seated correctly and the gap is within the manufacturer's specified tolerance.

   Reconnect the electrical harness

   Reconnect the electrical harness to the new sensor.

   Reconnect the battery

   Reconnect the battery.

   Clear the fault code

   Connect a diagnostic tool to the tractor and clear the stored 2902 fault code from the Transmission Control Unit.

   Verify the repair

   Start the tractor and operate it under load to verify that the ECU is receiving stable torque feedback and the fault code does not return.
