2910-00 - DEC

Case IH 2910-00 - DEC – DEC: PTO rear clutch solenoid data valid but above normal range - most severe

Issue description

The controller is detecting a voltage or current value from the PTO solenoid circuit that exceeds the maximum expected threshold. This condition typically points to a short circuit to power (B+) in the wiring harness, an internally shorted solenoid coil, or a failure within the controller's solenoid driver.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Puma series
  • Puma 155
  • Puma 180-260 CVX
  • Maxxum series
  • Maxxum 115
  • Maxxum 120
  • Maxxum 130
  • Magnum series
  • Optum series

Check the cause

  1. Verify system voltage: Ensure the battery is fully charged and the alternator is outputting around 14 volts, as low or spiking voltage can cause erratic solenoid faults.

  2. Locate the PTO control solenoid valve on the rear hydraulic block behind the remotes (typically the horizontal solenoid on the far right side).

  3. Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the PTO solenoid for broken wires, rubbed insulation causing a short to power, or corrosion.

  4. Test the PTO solenoid coil resistance using a multimeter to check for an internal short.

  5. Inspect the wiring for the PTO speed sensor and twist sensor, as damaged wires on these shared CAN bus/DEC circuits can cause related issues.

Repair steps

  1. Park and disconnect battery

Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and disconnect the negative battery cable.

  2. Locate solenoid

Locate the PTO rear clutch solenoid valve on the rear hydraulic manifold.

  3. Clean area

Thoroughly clean the area around the solenoid (e.g., with brake cleaner) to prevent dirt and debris from entering the hydraulic system.

  4. Disconnect harness

Disconnect the electrical wiring harness connector from the solenoid.

  5. Remove retaining hardware

Remove the retaining nut or bolts securing the solenoid coil and valve cartridge to the block.

  6. Remove old solenoid

Carefully pull the old solenoid valve out of the manifold.

  7. Inspect bore

Inspect the bore for debris or damaged O-ring material.

  8. Lubricate O-rings

Lubricate the O-rings on the new PTO solenoid valve with clean hydraulic oil.

  9. Install new solenoid

Insert the new solenoid valve into the manifold and tighten to the manufacturer's torque specification.

  10. Reconnect harness

    Reconnect the electrical harness.

  11. Clear fault code

Reconnect the battery and turn on the tractor. Use the AFS Pro monitor (e.g., Pro 1200) to navigate to the "Faults and Warnings" menu to clear the inactive fault code.

  12. Test operation

Test the PTO engagement to ensure proper operation.
