Case IH 2910-03 - DEC – Transmission Control Unit (TCU) or Vehicle/Chassis Controller: PTO rear clutch solenoid electrical circuit fault - voltage above normal
Issue description
The controller is detecting a voltage on the rear Power Take-Off (PTO) clutch solenoid circuit that is higher than the expected operating range. This condition is typically caused by a short to power, an internal short within the solenoid coil itself, or a failure within the control module sending constant voltage when it shouldn't.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the wiring harness leading from the transmission controller to the rear PTO solenoid for pinched wires, melted insulation, or chafing (diagnosing a short to power cause).
Disconnect the 2-pin connector at the rear PTO solenoid and inspect for water intrusion, corrosion, or bent pins.
With the key ON and the PTO switch OFF, measure voltage at the harness connector. If 12V is present, there is a short to power in the harness or a failed controller.
Measure the resistance (Ohms) across the two pins of the PTO solenoid. If resistance is near 0 ohms, the solenoid coil is internally shorted and must be replaced (diagnosing an internal short cause).
Verify the cab PTO switch or fender-mounted PTO switches are not stuck or internally shorted, which can send erroneous voltage signals to the controller.
Repair steps
Preparation
Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, apply the parking brake, and disconnect the negative battery cable.
Locate the Valve
Locate the rear PTO clutch solenoid valve. It is typically mounted on the rear transmission/axle hydraulic valve block assembly (often grouped with the differential lock and MFWD solenoids).
Clean the Area
Thoroughly clean the area around the solenoid with brake cleaner or a degreaser to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system when the valve is removed.
Disconnect
Unplug the electrical harness connector from the solenoid.
Removal
Remove the retaining nut or mounting bolts holding the solenoid coil/cartridge to the valve block. Carefully pull the solenoid cartridge out of the block. Note: Have a catch pan ready, as a small amount of hydraulic fluid will leak out.
Installation
Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid valve with clean hydraulic fluid. Insert the new valve into the block and tighten the retaining nut/bolts to the OEM torque specification.
Reassembly
Reconnect the electrical harness connector.
Testing
Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and test the rear PTO engagement. Inspect the valve block area for any hydraulic leaks.
Clear Codes
Use a diagnostic tool or the tractor's onboard display to clear the 2910-03 fault code.
