Case IH 2910-10 - DEC – DEC: Abnormal Rate of Change

The controller is detecting that the electrical signal or the resulting mechanical/hydraulic action of the rear PTO clutch solenoid is changing at an unexpected or erratic rate. This typically means the solenoid is not responding to the Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) commands smoothly, or the PTO speed sensor is reporting erratic engagement speeds that do not match the commanded solenoid state.

   Verify Implement Load: Turn off the tractor engine and check the implement connected to the PTO to ensure the load is proper and not causing mechanical binding.

   Check PTO Speed Sensor: If the PTO shaft is turning erratically or not at all, test the PTO speed sensor and its wiring harness, as the DEC uses this sensor to monitor the solenoid's engagement rate.

   Inspect Wiring: Check the wiring harness leading to the PTO solenoid for shorts to power, shorts to ground, or open circuits.

   Check Fluid and Filters: Verify the transmission/PTO hydraulic fluid level using the dipstick. Low fluid or a clogged hydraulic pressure filter can cause erratic hydraulic flow to the clutch, triggering an abnormal rate of change fault.

   Preparation

   Turn off the engine and ensure the tractor is parked safely.

   Drain Fluid (If Applicable)

   Depending on the model's valve block location, you may need to drain the oil from the range transmission/PTO clutch housing by removing the drain plugs from the torque tube or rear axle center housing.

   Disconnect Wiring

   Detach the wiring harness from the left side of the tractor (or specific valve block location) and move the wires out of the way.

   Remove Solenoid

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the faulty PTO solenoid and unthread/remove the valve from the transmission valve block.

   Install New Part

   Install the replacement PWM PTO solenoid valve and tighten to OEM specifications. Reconnect the wiring harness.

   Refill Fluids

   Refill the system with "CASE IH HY-TRAN PLUS" (or the equivalent specified fluid for your model) and check the level with the dipstick.

   Clear Fault Codes

   Re-energize the system. Depending on the ICU (Instrument Cluster) software version, you may be able to clear the inactive fault by holding the INCR and DECR keys for 10 seconds. Otherwise, the code must be cleared using the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) laptop.
